Erica Magrey, 2016
Edition of 25
8.25 x 5.25 in, 24 pages, digital printing, color.
Sound piece recorded on a cassette tape, 24min

Kristin is a girl I witnessed growing up, a family friend akin to a cousin, my former muse. Reflecting on the development of my own identity and sexuality in my youth and seeing these bubble up in her created a new closeness in our relationship. These are excerpts from our work together.

Erica Magrey is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist working with video, performance, music, costume, sculpture, photography, and set design. She was a 2014-2015 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace Resident, and was the 2011 NY Artist in Residence with iaab/International Exchange and Studio Program Basel, Switzerland, as well as a 2012 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Interdisciplinary Work. Career highlights include screenings, performances and exhibitions at Socrates Sculpture Park, The Sculpture Center, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Kaskadenkondensator (Basel), The Kitchen, Klaus von Nichtssagend, 106 Green, Magic Pictures (Philadelphia, PA), Freight + Volume, and Storefront for Art and Architecture.

Art Vandelay is a publishing project that focuses on exploring the ideas of archive and collection, more precisely the accumulation and loss of information over time.
Each issue of the AV project is composed of a zine and a tape, both of which display the work of a single
artist.

In those works the final object functions as a means to dignify a content that was previously discarded or lost: the artist is empowered to act as their own historian and to search through their archives for older material.

AV aims at publishing emerging artists employing mediums that are generally underrepresented in print such as
performance, video, installation or sculpture.
